The South African Weather Service has issued multiple yellow level warnings for severe thunderstorms expected in the Northern Cape, North West, Free State, KwaZulu-Natal and Eastern Cape.

Showers, strong winds and foggy conditions are expected in numerous areas during the morning. 

Impact-based warnings

Yellow Level 4 warning: Severe thunderstorms leading to damage or loss of infrastructure, settlements (formal and informal), property, vehicles livelihood and livestock over the Northern Cape, western parts of the North West and the Free State.

Yellow Level 2 warning: Severe thunderstorms leading to flooding of susceptible roads, low-lying areas and bridges, as well as localised damage to settlements, are expected over the southern parts of KwaZulu-Natal and the northern and extreme western parts of the Eastern Cape.

In SAWS' colour-coded weather warning system, yellow indicates a moderate risk of impact that requires caution and awareness.

It uses the numbers to indicate the likelihood of weather-based impacts occurring.

Scattered showers and thundershowers are expected, with widespread activity in the north, where it will stay cool. Coastal winds will transition from north-easterly to south-westerly by late morning.
