Cape cobra found on Buitengracht Street.
Motorist Michael Samuels came to an abrupt halt in Cape Town's Buitengracht on Wednesday evening – watching in disbelief as a brown 1.3-metre Cape cobra slithered across the street.
Samuels, 45, initially thought he was looking at a branch lying across the road.
He said when he drove closer to swerve around it, the head of the cobra lifted, and its piercing eyes seemed to be staring directly at him and its forked tongue slithered in and out.
