The IFP said it would not consider a deal with the ANC in which it could accept the premiership of KwaZulu-Natal in exchange for its support nationally.

The president of the IFP, Velinkosini Hlabisa, vowed to "remove the political party which destroyed everything", and to not betray voters by entering into a coalition agreement with the ANC after the elections.
