The fire that broke out on the mountain slopes in Simon's Town on Tuesday morning is approaching properties in the suburb.

However, there were no calls to evacuate residents yet, the City of Cape Town's Disaster Risk Management Centre said.

Its spokesperson, Charlotte Powell, added volunteers from the department assisted the firefighters in extinguishing the flames and preventing damage to nearby properties.

Entry to the main road leading into Simon's Town was closed to traffic at Red Hill Road, with access restricted to residents only.

Fire and Rescue Services spokesperson Jermaine Carelse said the wind fanned the flames, however, there was no damage to any of the properties in the area.

He added the city deployed 15 fire engines, seven water tankers and more than 90 firefighters and crews from the Table Mountain National Park, NCC Environmental and Volunteer Wildfire Services. 

The fire was reported at 07:00 on Tuesday.

Fire season traditionally runs from November to May in the Western Cape, when the province experiences hot, dry, and windy conditions.

Meanwhile, the Cape Winelands District Municipality's Fire Services, CapeNature and their contracted crew members responded to a fire on the slopes of the old pass at Du Toits Kloof, said spokesperson Jo-Anne Otto.

She added the fire was fuelled by aged fynbos and other mixed vegetation.

The municipality deployed three choppers and three purpose-built 4x4s and crew, among other resources.
