News24 | WATCH | Pilot killed in fiery crash at West Coast Air Show

A pilot lost his life after the aircraft he was flying crashed during the West Coast Air Show in Saldanha Bay on Saturday afternoon.

Videos shared on social media show the plane, which appears to be an Impala Mk1, ascending, spinning mid-air, and then plummeting to the ground before erupting into flames.

Elowayne Gouws, the director of West Coast Medical Rescue, said the tragic incident, which occurred shortly after 15:00, left spectators in shock.

"The Impala jet hit the ground," said Gouws. "The pilot died on impact. West Coast Medical Rescue arrived within two minutes and found the wreckage engulfed in flames."

The West Coast Air Show took place this weekend, 21-22 March, at the Saldanha/Vredenburg Airport.
