The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued warnings of strong winds resulting in damage to temporary structures in parts of the Eastern Cape and Northern Cape.
Rain is expected in the south-western parts of the Western Cape by late afternoon.
Impact-based warnings
- A Yellow Level 2 warning for damaging winds resulting in localised problems for high-sided vehicles on prone routes over the south-western parts of the Northern Cape.
- A Yellow Level 1 warning for damaging winds resulting in localised damage to temporary structures and an increased risk of localised runaway fires in places over the Dr Beyers Naude Local Municipality in the Eastern Cape.
- A Yellow Level 2 warning for damaging winds resulting in localised damage to temporary structures and localised power and communication interruptions in places over the Chris Hani and Joe Gqabi District Municipalities of the Eastern Cape on Thursday.
- A Yellow Level for 2 warning for damaging waves resulting in difficulty in navigation at sea and small vessels at risk of taking on water and capsizing between Alexander Bay and Plettenberg Bay on Thursday morning, subsiding from Friday morning.
In the SAWS' colour-coded weather warning system, yellow indicates a moderate risk of impact that requires caution and awareness, while orange indicates that higher-risk impact is expected, requiring increased attention and preparation.
SAWS uses the numbers to indicate the likelihood of weather-based impacts occurring. Levels 2 and 6 are high, and Level 4 is low.
