The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has urged people to take precautions as severe weather conditions, including dangerous thunderstorms and a persistent heatwave, are expected across several provinces.
Impact-based warnings:
Yellow Level 2 warning: Severe thunderstorms with damaging winds, large hail, and localised flooding are expected over the central and south-eastern parts of the North West, central and eastern Free State, and western KwaZulu-Natal. Susceptible roads, low-lying areas, and bridges may be affected, with possible damage to infrastructure.
Advisories
Heatwave conditions will persist in the Sarah Baartman, Chris Hani, Joe Gqabi, Alfred Nzo, OR Tambo, and Amathole district municipalities in the Eastern Cape until Thursday.
Extremely uncomfortable conditions are expected over most of the Northern Cape, Free State, and southern parts of the North West until Friday.
Extreme heat warnings are in effect, with Upington reaching 40°C.
