The Western Cape legislature's second-in-command, Beverley Schäfer, who was found guilty in 2022 of breaching the code of conduct, will finally have her appeal heard, but behind closed doors.

Schäfer has been serving as deputy speaker since 2019. 

On Wednesday, the legislature's appeals committee met, but the start of the hearing was delayed by the DA, which pushed for it not to be made public.
