The DA-governed Western Cape has urged President Cyril Ramaphosa to refer the controversial National Health Insurance (NHI) Bill back to the National Assembly for reconsideration.

The Western Cape government has written to President Cyril Ramaphosa in a last-ditch appeal to stop the National Health Insurance (NHI) Bill from being signed into law.

This after the bill was passed in the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) on Wednesday.

The provincial government has warned that the bill will only change how money is being spent without addressing the challenges facing the health system, and it will not achieve universal health care (UHC).
