All eyes are on the ANC this week as its top leadership meets to untangle the coalition web the party finds itself in, with some preferences for working arrangements already coming to the fore.
Preferences for working relationships differ across factions, but a firm decision on the way forward will be taken at Tuesday's meeting of the party's national executive committee (NEC).
The NEC will have two hurdles to cross this week: The first will be to fend off potential internal daggers aimed at President Cyril Ramaphosa over the party's election performance, and the second will be deciding on a coalition partner and the most palatable deal.
