Prince Siphamandla Khumalo and his wife were murdered over the weekend.

The killing of a traditional leader in KwaZulu-Natal has thrust the spotlight on the provincial government's failure to protect amakhosi (traditional leaders).

Prince Siphamandla Khumalo, of the Amantungwa Traditional Council in Utrecht in the eMadlangeni Municipality, and his wife were gunned down over the weekend.

The couple is survived by their 4-year-old child.
