The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, or the Hawks, has confirmed it is in the early stages of investigating the source of funds used by Nceba Nonkwelo, Deputy President Paul Mashatile's son-in-law, to buy a R28.9-million house in the Cape Town suburb of Constantia last year.

It is among a raft of allegations against Mashatile and his immediate family that the Public Sector Serious Corruption unit of the Hawks in the Western Cape and Gauteng is looking into.

The probe follows reports to the Public Protector and the police in June 2023 and February 2024 by the official opposition, the DA, and other parties, including Rise Mzansi and ActionSA.
