Former deputy president Kgalema Motlanthe says the ANC's step-aside policy is clear that once formally charged, members must step down from their positions and be relieved of their responsibilities.

Speaking to journalists ahead of election campaigning in Diepkloof, Soweto, on Friday morning, Motlanthe reacted to a Mail & Guardian report which stated that the National Prosecuting Authority was closing in on Sports, Arts and Culture Minister Zizi Kodwa.

"There are rules and guidelines in the ANC, and as you know, there is even the step-aside rule, so whoever gets charged formally knows that they have to step aside from any positions of responsibility that they occupy," he said.
