South Africa, through its case against Israel in the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague, had managed to embarrass great nations which had previously engaged in regime change.

Also, these nations, including the United States, had engaged in regime changes and could fund opposition parties to unseat the ANC.

This was the view of an international relations scholar in response to President Cyril Ramaphosa's warning that the ANC could face a backlash after its success in The Hague.
