As someone with curly hair, I usually try to avoid using hairdryers or straighteners, amid fears they'll cause heat damage. But with winter fast approaching, venturing out with wet hair is looking less and less appealing.

Now, Shark has released a two–in–one multistyler that promises to dry and smooth even the most unruly curls – without frizz or heat damage.

I tried the Shark Glossi on my 3a curls, and was delighted with the salon quality blowout from the comfort of my own home.

Our verdict

The Shark Glossi is a great mid–range hairstyler for those looking for salon–quality results at home.

As someone with thick, curly hair, I was impressed at how the multistyler navigated my locks, leaving me with a sleek finish – which, importantly, didn't feel frazzled.

It was easy and intuitive to use, taking me just 45 minutes to fully dry and style my hair.

Admittedly, my frizz did begin to reappear after about eight hours, although a shortly blast on Dry Mode quickly resolved that issue.

If you love a bouncy blowdry but don't fancy forking out to a salon, this could be a great option for you!

Shark Glossi 2-in-1 Hot Tool and Air Glosser review

Performance

I have thick, curly hair and usually don't apply any heat, so was initially nervous about how the Shark Glossi would work on my locks. However, my fears were quickly dispelled.

As advised in the instructions, I waited until my freshly–washed hair was only slightly damp, before separating it into smaller sections.

I then toggled the button at the bottom of the device to 'Wet Mode', and it quickly began blowing out hot air.

Taking the first small section, I sprayed on some heat protectant, before running the Shark Glossi through my hair, finding that it became smooth and glossy after about four strokes.

Section by section, I repeated this process, moving up towards the top of my head, before replicating it on the other side.

Finally, once all my hair was dry, I toggled the switch to 'Dry Mode', running the styler over everything once again for a smooth finish.

Amazingly, this entire process took just 45 minutes – and I reckon with a bit of practice, I could wittle this down further.

Overall, I was really happy with the results. My natural hair is very curly and quickly becomes frizzy, yet my locks were impressively smooth after using the Shark Glossi.

Admittedly, by the end of the day a the top of my head was beginning to frizz, but this was resolved by a quick blast with the device in Dry Mode.

Design and packaging

The packaging is fairly basic. The Shark Glossi comes in a cardboard box with some simple instructions and QR code linking to further information.

However, the hair styler itself is beautifully designed.

One of the things that really struck me the most was how light the Shark Glossi is, weighing just 810g

Buyers can choose between three colourways – Raspberry (bright pink), Juniper (turquoise), or Lychee (pale pink).

I opted for Juniper and absolutely love the shiny turquoise colour – it makes a lovely change from the usual boring black or metallic options!

One of the things that struck me the most was how light the Shark Glossi is, weighing just 810g.

I've tried other, heavier stylers and have had to take breaks to give my arm a rest, but easily completed the 45–minute blowdry without so much as a single twinge!

Value for money

At £159.99, the Shark Glossi is a great mid–range option.

If I'm going to a fancy event, I'll occassionally splash out bouncy blowdries, which cost around £40.

Going forwards, I'll swerve the salon, and use my Shark Glossi instead.

How does it compare to similar products

While cheaper hair stylers are available – such as the popular Revlon One–Step Hair Dryer and Volumiser (£49.99) – these tend to be much heavier, and harsher on the hair.

The ceramic plates really make the Shark Glossi stand out – ensuring even heat distribution to limit damage.

It's also significantly cheaper than the Dyson Airwrap multi–styler and dryer, which will set you back £399.99.

How does it rate online

The Shark Glossi's rating is an impressive 4.9 out of 5, based on 45 user reviews. Delighted users say it has transformed their hair routines, with one calling the results 'incredible'.

The main negative reviews talk about it being tricky to use – particularly on the roots.

FAQs

Is the Shark Glossi hard to use?

I found the Shark Glossi straightforward to use. Separating your hair into smaller sections is helpful – it might be worth investing in some hair clips to keep the sections apart.

How long do the results last?

While Shark says that the results should last at least 24 hours, I did find that my roots started to frizz by the end of the day. Thankfully, a five–minute blast on Dry Mode did the trick to smooth out the flyaways!

Does it work on curly hair?

Yes! I have type 3A curls, and was left with smooth, frizz–free hair after 45 minutes with the Shark Glossi.

According to Shark, the styler is also suitable for coily or colour–treated hair.
