Thousands of Americans across the US reported drops in their T-Mobile cell phone service Wednesday, with as many as 3,767 complaints coming in at 3:30pm Eastern.
Major US metropolitan areas including Washington DC, New York, Los Angeles, Seattle, Boston and Minneapolis appear to have been the worst hit by the outage.
Thousands began reporting complaints from 2:30pm Eastern on into the early evening, according to the site Down Detector, with signal strength appearing to return in some areas by 5:30pm Eastern time.
While T-Mobile has not yet issued an explanation for the outage, the telecom's social media presence, @TMobileHelp on X, has been responding to public complaints requesting customers move their conversations to 'direct messages' (DMs).

According to the site Down Detector, as many as 3,767 complaints regarding T-Mobile's signal issues came in at 3:30pm Eastern. While T-Mobile has not yet issued an explanation for the outage, the telecom's presence on X, @TMobileHelp, has responded to public complaints
'I will review your area and find out why your service is down and work to get you connected as quickly as possible,' one typical message from @TMobileHelp read.
'Please send me a DM with your exact address so we can work together on a resolution to ensure you have service.'
According to Down Detector, the majority of user complaints (60 percent) focused on mobile phone service issues with the remainder divided between 'signal' issues (23 percent) and access to the provider's 'mobile internet' services (17 percent).
Regardless of the root cause for the outage, speculation was rife on social media, with some attributing the episode to recent geopolitical tensions and natural disasters, worldwide.
'Tbh [to be honest] I think it might have to do with the world issues,' one user of Elon Musk's X platform said. 'Cuz a lot of things went down the past couple days between Xbox psn Verizon att T-Mobile.'
'Something ain’t right,' said the user, who goes by the name 'DEION aka hogwarts is my home' @Mr_too_soon on X.
