TRENDING RUMORS
- Out-of-contract Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has offered himself to Barcelona, according to Diario Sport. The 32-year-old has been in blistering form for Arne Slot's team this season, notching up 27 goals and 17 assists in just 29 Premier League games. The Egypt international has reportedly already received an offer from Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal worth €50 million per season which, due to Barça's perilous financial situation, the Spanish side would find hard to match. Indeed, Salah would have to accept a significant reduction to even his current salary of £15m a year at Liverpool in order for the Blaugrana to comply with LaLiga's financial rules.
- Manchester City have placed Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga on their list of options for the summer transfer window and are actively monitoring him, according to Florian Plettenberg. Many clubs are interested in the 22-year-old, but he hasn't decided whether he wants to leave Los Blancos and has a contract that runs until 2029.
- Jeremie Frimpong plans to leave Bayer Leverkusen this summer and the full-back is prioritising a move to Barcelona or Real Madrid, says Sky Sports Deutschland. The Premier League is not seen as a viable option for the 24-year-old, despite plenty of interested suitors, due to the league being viewed as too physical for his style of play.
- Arsenal are considering a move for Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimarães, Football Insider reports. With both Thomas Partey and Jorginho out of contract this summer, the Gunners are searching for quality reinforcements and see Brazil international Bruno as an ideal recruit. However, as they have found in their pursuit of striker Alexander Isak, Newcastle will be unwilling to let another of their best players leave for a Premier League rival.
- Viktor Gyökeres' departure from Sporting CP this summer is inevitable, according to A Bola. Despite the Sweden striker having a contract with the Portuguese club until June 2028, he has reached a verbal agreement with Sporting to leave at the end of the season for less than his €100m release clause. Gyökeres, 26, could leave Sporting if an offer of around €70m arrives. According to A Bola, the Premier League is where Gyökeres wants to continue his career. Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City are among the Premier League clubs that have monitored Gyökeres while Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich have also shown an interest in the player. Gyökeres has scored 39 goals in 40 appearances for Sporting this season and is on his way to breaking last season's feat of 43 goals.
EXPERT TAKE
Mohamed Salah to Barcelona cannot be dismissed out of hand, but it seems unlikely. Barça do want to bolster their attack this summer -- both in the wide areas and possibly a No.9, depending on Robert Lewandowski's future -- and who better than the in-form Liverpool forward?
Club president Joan Laporta has also displayed a penchant for big-name signings in the past, so you can see why he may fancy bringing Salah to the club.
However, with Lamine Yamal owning the right wing at Barça, it's hard to decipher how Salah would fit in. Would he move to a more central role? Could he play a more central role? Or would Yamal have to be accommodated elsewhere? There are people at the club who have imagined the 17-year-old moving to be at the apex of the attack as he developed.
Therefore, there is a risk of upsetting the harmony both on the playing side of things and at dressing room level before you even factor in what Barça, who are still limited financially, can afford this summer.
Instead, the Catalan club are likely to see what options are available on the left wing, with Raphinha already demonstrating an ability to drift into central areas anyway. They are also monitoring the No.9 market pending a decision on Lewandowski's future. The Polish striker has an option to extend his contract until 2026.
Still, Salah, arguably the best player in Europe this season, on a free? You can see the temptation if the Egyptian is keen and willing to make certain economic sacrifices.
