Nollywood actress, Rhoda Albert, best known for her role as Paulina in popular series, Wura, has shared one of her most unexpected fan encounters.
In an interview with Saturday Beats, the actress recalled a surprising moment when she walked into a supermarket and was met with curious stares and whispers.
“I think the weirdest experience I have had was when I just got back to Lagos from the Wura set. I strolled into a supermarket in my neighbourhood, and from the entrance, everyone was staring at me, but they weren’t sure if I was the one. At the time, I didn’t realise how big the show had become, so I was wondering why they were looking at me. Then someone said, ‘Aunty Paulina!’ I turned, and suddenly there was an uproar—‘Oh, she’s the one! We want free drinks o!’ Then came the hugs and pictures. I was surprised! But it felt good,” she said.
Reflecting on her acting sojourn, Albert revealed that her passion for the craft started at an early age.
“I had always wanted to be an actor for as long as I can remember. I was always part of one drama group or another, from school to church. Even in nursery school, I remember participating in a play that aired on several stations in Kaduna, where I lived at the time”, she said.
Initially, Albert had planned to study Mass Communication at the University of Lagos, acting as a side interest. However, when she did not meet the required grade for her preferred course, she had to choose between English and Creative Arts.
“I chose English, but I was given Creative Arts, which includes Theatre Arts. So I guess I ended up exactly where I was meant to be. From school, I started doing plays and short films. After graduation, I continued auditioning and learning, and here I am now”, she stated.
