Wrexham out of automatic promotion spots after draw

Wrexham's automatic promotion hopes were severly dented on Friday as they were held to a 1-1 draw at home against lowly Bristol Rovers

The result saw them fall to third in the League 1 table, with Wycombe Wanderes moving into second-place after a 2-0 win over Bolton Wanderers.

The top two sides gain automatic promotion to the Championship, with league-winners Birmingham City already having secured one of those places.

Phil Parkinson's side have lost steam in the tail end of the season, dropping six points in their last four games.

Taylor Moore gave Bristol the lead near the half-hour mark after heading home from a corner. The goal came against the run of play, with Max Cleworth and Ollie Rathbone having early chances to give Wrexham the lead.

The hosts, who were cheered on by co-owner Rob McElhenney, pushed hard for an equaliser after the break and drew level through Matty James.

However, they were unable to find a winner and saw their hopes for automatic promotion move out of their hands.
