Nigerian-born singer, Efezino Akpo, simply known as Efezino, says that beyond entertainment, her songs are meant to inspire and motivate listeners.

Speaking on the heels of the release of her new Extended Play album titled, ‘Memory Box’, the singer stated that the six-track project blends her memories and experiences, showcasing a fusion of folk, soul, country and afro-pop sounds that capture the essence of organic music in Africa.

She said, “I hope listeners can relate to the stories and find inspiration in them. I want people to listen to my music and be motivated never to give up on their dreams.”

She added that the EP reflects her personal growth and experiences of the past six years. She said, “It is a collection of my memories and experiences. Some of the songs were written in the past, reflecting events that occurred in future.”

Recalling the early days of her career, Efezino said, “I started performing officially at the age of 12, and by the time I turned 16, I was recording demos for international artistes, such as Rihanna, Brandy, and Asa.

She added that her participation in the music reality shows— Nigerian Idol and The Voice South Africa— helped to shape her career.

When asked about her favorite track, Efezino stated that each track is special to her as they all tell different stories from her life.

Asked if she had a favourite track on the EP, she said, “Each track is special to me, because they all tell different stories from my life. However, I regard ‘California’ and ‘December’ as standout tracks with unique elements.”

In a message to her fans, the singer said, “Memories and experiences, whether good or bad, shape who we are. I encourage people to never give up on their dreams in spite of challenges.”

Shedding light on her experience as an independent artiste, she said, “In spite of my struggles as an independent artiste, I keep pushing and make the most of every opportunity. I do this because it is my purpose in life, and I love it.”
