Bromwell Street residents facing eviction want the court to order the City of Cape Town to provide emergency accommodation near the inner-city.

After resisting evictions for 10 years, the case involving a group of Bromwell Street residents in Woodstock, Cape Town, will be heard in the Constitutional Court. 

The residents have been resisting their eviction since 2014 because they cannot afford any other Woodstock or Salt River housing options. 

The case emerged after residents' homes were bought by private developers - the Woodstock Hub - in 2013 from the landlord as part of the suburb's gentrification push.
