
Two children, aged five and 16, were killed when a Toyota Fortuner carrying eight people overturned on the R341 outside Uniondale in the Western Cape.
Two children, aged five and 16, were killed after the Toyota Fortuner they were travelling in overturned on the R341 just outside of Uniondale in the Western Cape on Sunday.
Southern Cape police spokesperson Warrant Officer Christopher Spies said that when police arrived at the scene shortly after 12:00, emergency services were already present.
The Fortuner, carrying eight occupants, had overturned, Spies said.
“Upon arrival, police found the vehicle and arranged for seven occupants to be transported to a hospital in Uniondale. Two of the occupants, both children, sustained multiple injuries and were declared dead by medical personnel upon arrival.
“One person, believed to be the driver, was airlifted to a hospital in George, while the remaining victims were later transferred to a medical facility in George for further treatment,” said Spies.
Spies said the cause of the accident is still under investigation, forming part of an ongoing police probe.
