A convicted rapist, Clatta Gumbo, escaped from custody during a visit to Mamelodi Regional Hospital on Monday.

A Pretoria inmate who was serving a sentence for rape, kidnapping and assault has escaped from the grounds of Mamelodi Regional Hospital.
The Department of Correctional Services (DCS) said Clatta Gumbo escaped on Monday, allegedly after attacking an official.
The department launched a "widespread search operation" to find him, DCS spokesperson Singabakho Nxumalo said.
