The Western Cape High Court vowed that neither lightning, thunder, nor load shedding would stop the murder trial of Nafiz Modack and his co-accused from starting on 29 January, and staying on track.

Although it did start on the set trial date, the pace has been a stop-start affair.

The primary delays at the beginning were over finding lawyers to represent everybody, and after that was ironed out, the newly appointed lawyers needed time to consult. There was a minor accident in a police van with one of the accused, and a complaint about severe toothache, but presiding Judge Robert Henney is pressing on.
