- The tragedy comes days after a Jeffreys Bay childminder was charged with stabbing a two-year-old girl 15 times on New Year’s Day.
A 62-year-old Eastern Cape man has been arrested for allegedly beating his 14-year-old son to death after accusing the child of stealing his bank card.
The incident occurred at Ngojini Location in Ngqeleni on Monday evening at around 22:00, police spokesperson, Captain Welile Matyolo, said on Wednesday.

The teenager had allegedly used his father’s bank card to purchase goods at a local spaza shop.
“Police were summoned to a crime scene on Tuesday morning. Preliminary investigations revealed the deceased boy was assaulted by his father on Monday evening, tied with rope, and kept in the house overnight, where he was found dead on Tuesday morning at about 04:00,” Matyolo said.
The man was due to appear in the Ngqeleni Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, facing a charge of murder.

OR Tambo District Commissioner, Major-General Norman Modishana, condemned the incident, urging parents to engage in meaningful conversations with their children and avoid corporal punishment.
The tragedy comes less than a week after a 59-year-old childminder was arrested for allegedly stabbing a two-year-old girl 15 times in Jeffreys Bay on New Year’s Day.

Police responded to reports of an injured child at a house in Govan Mbeki Street, Tokyo Sexwale, where they found the toddler with multiple stab wounds to her upper body.
The childminder appeared in the Humansdorp Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday on charges of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
Her case was postponed to 12 January for a formal bail application.
