Former Free State premier Ace Magashule's former personal assistant touched down on South African soil on Thursday night after she was extradited from the US.

Moroadi Cholota arrived in the country at 19:24.

Before she landed, several Hawks vehicles and officers were seen outside the police station at the airport.

Heavily armed police and Hawks officers lined both sides of the walls near the entrance of the police station, awaiting Cholota's arrival.

She was considered a pivotal witness for the State in a corrupt R255-million asbestos tender scheme, but was charged after she declined to cooperate.

She is now an accused.
