Another crash on the R23 between Balfour and Greylingstad in Mpumalanga has claimed the lives of five people.

All five victims had been travelling in the sedan.

They were declared dead at the scene.

The Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety and Security said its emergency services rushed to the area and remained there until late in the evening.

According to the department, an investigation was under way to determine the cause of the collision.

News24 previously reported that earlier on Thursday morning, four people were killed in a head-on collision also on the R23 between Standerton and Perdekop.

Mpumalanga Community Safety MEC Jackie Macie said at the time that a sedan collided with a light delivery vehicle.

“All four deceased, who were adults between the ages of 30 and 40, were occupants of the sedan, including the driver,” added Macie.

The driver of the other vehicle and a child sustained serious injuries and were transported to a nearby medical facility in Standerton for treatment.
