Former state security minister Bongani Bongo has been granted R5 000 bail in his state capture-related corruption case.
This after his lawyer argued that Bongo should be released on warning because he has no outstanding matters and did not show any signs of disrespect for the law.
Initially, Bongo seemed calm, but later, he appeared nervous as he constantly switched between putting on and removing his sunglasses.
His appearance comes four years after now-impeached Western Cape Judge President John Hlophe wrongfully acquitted him.
Hlophe acquitted him without requiring him to answer to advocate Ntuthuzelo Vanara's evidence that the former ANC MP had tried to bribe him to halt or collapse Parliament's Eskom inquiry.
The Supreme Court of Appeal ordered that he should be retried.
