News24 | Grade 10 pupil found dead at Overberg High School

A Grade 10 Overberg High School pupil has been found dead at the Caledon school.

Photos of Deveney Nel were widely circulated on social media on Wednesday, after she failed to catch her lift home to Grabouw.

In a later circular, the school said: "Today (Wednesday), we are deeply distressed after one of our children died. The SAPS is handling the investigation. Therefore, the school must be closed on Thursday."

Western Cape Education Department spokesperson Bronagh Hammond confirmed on Thursday that the school was closed and said counselling had been arranged for pupils at a local church.

"We will send out a comment this morning," Hammond added.

Police were approached for comment, which will be added once received.
