Three men have been arrested for allegedly kidnapping a 60-year-old man during a house robbery in East London in the Eastern Cape, according to the Hawks.

It is alleged that gunmen kidnapped the man from his home in Gonubie at around 06:00 on 23 February and held him hostage, Hawks spokesperson Captain Yolisa Mgolodela said.

According to her, the men returned about 30 minutes later and robbed the people who remained behind of money and their belongings.

"Reports reveal that during the early hours of 27 February, the family, through panic, paid the ransom of R160 000 to get the victim released," Mgolodela said.

She said the 60-year-old man was dropped off at Fort Jackson Shell Garage unharmed.
