On 26 June 2020, President Cyril Ramaphosa was forced to apologise to the ANC's deployment committee for appointing Presidential State-Owned Enterprises Council (PSEC) members without consulting and involving it.
On 20 January 2020, the committee scolded Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan for snubbing it when appointing senior executives to state-owned enterprises (SOEs).
A strongly worded but undated letter from the office of the ANC's secretary-general reminded "all deployed comrades" that the office of the party's deputy secretary-general should be informed of all directors general, board chairpersons, chief executives of parastatals, and all board members of SOEs' vacancies before they are advertised.
