  • Water outages can be expected in parts of Johannesburg on Wednesday.
  • There will be unplanned maintenance on the Commando System.
  • The work will affect a number of reservoirs in the north of the city.

Numerous Johannesburg suburbs will be affected by a water outage on Wednesday due to unplanned maintenance on the Commando System.

The maintenance, which is being conducted to replace the non-return valve to the Crosby Reservoir, will affect the Brixton Reservoir and Tower, Crosby Reservoir, and Hursthill 1 and 2 Reservoirs.

Poor pressure or no water supply can be expected.

Wednesday's interruptions will be followed by planned maintenance next week Wednesday, 30 July.

That maintenance will affect Rosebank, Hyde Park, Illovo, Westcliff, Parkwood, Forest Town, Birdhaven, Saxonwold, Dunkeld, Melrose, Parktown North, Melrose North, Riviera, Killarney, Parkview, Oaklands, Greenside, and Houghton Estate.

It entails the replacement of water pipes.

News24 reported that Rand Water embarked on a 50-hour maintenance project at Zuikerbosch Water Treatment Plant last week.

According to Rand Water, the Zuikerbosch, which is a purification plant, impacts the Palmiet Booster station.

Parts of Johannesburg were left without water despite the conclusion of the maintenance, while critical reservoirs supplied by the Palmiet system ran low.

More maintenance is expected at Palmiet during the third and final phase of the planned maintenance.

On 29 July, the system's pumping will be reduced to 76% for 40 hours.
