The State has added charges of terrorism, sedition and conspiracy to murder against the 65 people accused of instigating the July 2021 civil unrest in the wake of former president Jacob Zuma’s incarceration.

Previously, the group of Zuma supporters only faced charges of conspiracy to commit public violence and incitement to commit public violence.

The accused allegedly conspired to murder Chief Justice Raymond Zondo, incited others to undermine the rule of law, disrupted services and threatened the unity and territorial integrity of the Republic.
