A Limpopo man has been taken into custody after allegedly assaulting and kidnapping a woman, whom he then drove to another province.
According to police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, the 44-year-old man has been charged with kidnapping and attempted murder following the incident, which took place last Christmas Eve in Limpopo.
"Preliminary investigations revealed that… the suspect came from work in Mpumalanga and found the victim at home. The victim went to fetch water at her neighbours, and the suspect followed her and started to assault her," said Ledwaba.
The man then allegedly drove the 42-year-old woman to Soshanguve in Gauteng, continuing to assault her on the way.

"He subsequently locked her inside the vehicle boot. The vehicle apparently had a breakdown along the way to Swartdam and it was abandoned. That was when the victim managed to escape," he said.
A case of kidnapping and attempted murder was registered at Modimolle, with police issuing a warrant of arrest in February.
On Wednesday, Modimolle detectives received information about the suspect's whereabouts. He was located and arrested on the same day.
He is expected to appear before the Modimolle Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.
The investigation is ongoing, Ledwaba added.
