“The police in Waterval arrested a 28-year-old man for rape, kidnapping and intimidating his mother,” he said.

“According to the preliminary reports, at around 18:30 on Saturday, the suspect came home and started to demand money from his mother, and she responded that she had no cash.”

The man then apparently became aggressive towards his mother, who has a health condition.

“The suspect allegedly insulted and attacked his mother and suddenly raped her. The victim tried to resist, but she was overpowered,” Ledwaba said.

“After the alleged rape ordeal, he locked the victim inside the house and left.”

The victim managed to get assistance from members of the community who unlocked the house and freed her.

“She then informed the police about the incident, and a rape case was registered at Waterval SAPS,” Ledwaba said.

“The suspect was arrested in the early hours of Monday. He will appear before Waterval Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday for rape, intimidation, and kidnapping. Investigations continue.”
