Limpopo police have arrested a 28-year-old man in connection with the murder of a well-known Baltimore farmer who was attacked on his cattle farm at the weekend.

Attie Mahne, 77, was killed on Saturday when intruders entered his farm and tied up him and his wife, Pietro Mahne.

Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said an intensive investigation led to the arrest of the suspect in the early hours of Tuesday by members of the Provincial Murder and Robbery Unit, Tolwe Detectives, Bosveld Misdaad Ondersoeke, and Bosveld Plaasbeveiliging Security Company.

“The arrested suspect will appear before the Senwabarwana Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 03 December 2025. A search for the second suspect is ongoing,” Ledwaba said.

News24 previously reported that Mahne left the house at around 16:00 to check on his cattle, according to the police.

While he was away, the assailants entered the house, tied Pietro up, and ransacked the property.

When Mahne returned about an hour later, the suspects overpowered him, tied him up at knifepoint, severely assaulted him, and fled the scene.

Police said Pietro managed to free herself and reported the incident to the farm watch.

Her husband was found unresponsive, and Emergency Medical Services declared him dead at the scene.

Ledwaba said several items were reportedly stolen during the attack, including a firearm and an undisclosed amount of money.
