Minister of Basic Education Siviwe Gwarube will hold an urgent media briefing in Cape Town on Thursday following the identification of a breach during the marking of matric examination papers.
In a brief statement issued on Wednesday afternoon, the department stated that the breach was detected through its internal monitoring and oversight systems.
“Minister Gwarube will outline the immediate interventions and the measures being implemented to safeguard the integrity and credibility of the 2025 NSC examination results.”

Gwarube’s spokesperson, Lukhanyo Vangqa, provided no further details of the alleged breach and told News24 that the department had no information to share. Details would be shared by Gwarube only on Thursday, he said.
