Pupils from Lamulelani High School in Bushbuckridge have to relieve themselves in the bush.

Pupils attending a school in Mpumalanga have to answer the call of nature in bushes after a contractor who built flushing toilets allegedly failed to install a borehole to supply the school with water.

Lamulelani High School, in the impoverished hamlet of Madras in Bushbuckridge, sent pupils in Grades 8 to 11 home early every day last week because there was no water in the newly renovated toilets.

"The department promised that a borehole would be installed to supply water to the new toilets, but the contractor has vanished after claiming he hasn't been paid. Now, our children are suffering," said the chair of the school governing body, Rogers Mkhonto.
