A leadership battle in the Muslim Judicial Council played out in the Western Cape High Court with a contempt of court application the previous president lodged against the new president and the council.
Shaykh Irafaan Abrahams, a well-known figure in the faith community, was suspended amid an investigation into alleged financial irregularities at the council.
Fingers did not point at him directly, and he was not accused of theft, but the Voice of the Cape reported that the council wanted answers on why its books were in a shambles under his leadership.
