After failing to get an interdict in order to dispute the timeline of the Electoral Commission of SA (IEC) ahead of the election date of 29 May this year, the newly-established Labour Party has sought legal intervention.

The party took the IEC to court on Friday, 8 March, seeking an extension of the deadline (which was that same day, 8 March) in the election timetable, namely the cut-off date for submissions, which recently registered and unrepresented parties were required to adhere to in terms of section 27 of the Electoral Act.
