"We are relieved and can finally continue our healing process in peace," says Melvin Pedro on the hefty jail sentence handed down to the man who murdered his son, Constable Ashwin Pedro. 

Denzil October, 44, fatally shot Pedro, who had, with his colleague Constable Theodore Henry, responded to a call about a man carrying a gun in the Grassy Park area in December 2022.

On Friday morning, the Pedro family said they were nervous to hear if justice would be served as they went to the Khayelitsha Priority Crimes Court.
