The ACDP has called on North-West University (NWU) to apologise and lift the suspension of a student who objected to a first-year orientation in which LGBTQIA+ ideology was "being pushed".

The party said the final-year student, Shaun Christie, "stood up" for students who were "forced" to sit through the orientation, in which the rights of members of the LGBTQIA+ community were part of the discussion.

According to the party, Christie claimed the university's Potchefstroom campus did not allow students to speak openly about Jesus Christ but enabled conversations about the rights of the LGBTQIA+ community, which, he said, did not enrich them academically or spiritually.
