Police officer Sergeant Mandla Alex Nhleko was shot dead.

A Mpumalanga police officer was shot and killed "only a few meters" away from his home in Balfour on Saturday night.
Police spokesperson Colonel Donald Mdhluli said Sergeant Mandla Alex Nhleko, 45, was off duty when he was attacked.
"Members of the police from Balfour were busy patrolling when they received information about a shooting next to a certain school. Upon arrival, they met with the victim's family, who indicated to them that the victim was taken to a nearby clinic for medical treatment," said Mdhluli.
