One person died during a massive power outage affecting multiple Western Cape towns in the Central Karoo.

During a media briefing on Wednesday, Premier Alan Winde said it appeared the death could be linked to the inhalation of fumes after a generator was turned on to power a small shop.

News24 understands the incident took place in Leeu Gamka on Tuesday night.
