Police have denied claims that Police Minister Bheki Cele used a state chopper in his personal capacity to the ANC manifesto launch rally in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal this weekend.

Their response comes amid calls by DA MP Andrew Whitfield for the minister to foot the bill "for every flight minute the helicopter was in the air".

Whitfield alleged that the minister's use of the chopper demonstrated his disregard for the law, entitlement and disdain for South Africans.
