The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has warned of hot and humid conditions in parts of KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape, while isolated thunderstorms are forecast for other parts of the country.
Impact-based warnings
Yellow Level 2 warning: Severe thunderstorms leading to localised flooding of susceptible roads, settlements and low-lying areas/bridges, excessive lightning, strong damaging winds and large amounts of small hail and/or large hail are expected over the central parts of Northern Cape, extreme north-eastern parts of Western Cape, and Eastern Cape except along the coast.
Yellow Level 1 warning: Damaging winds leading to localised damage to settlements and localised problems for high-sided vehicles on the prone routes due to crosswinds on exposed high-level roads/bridges are expected over the central southern parts of the Northern Cape and the north-eastern parts of the Western Cape.
In the SAWS’ colour-coded weather warning system, yellow indicates a moderate risk of impact that requires caution and awareness, while orange indicates that a higher-risk impact is expected, requiring increased attention and preparation.
SAWS uses the numbers to indicate the likelihood of weather-based impacts occurring. Levels 2 and 6 are high, and Level 4 is low.
