Unemployed doctors in KwaZulu-Natal staged a peaceful march to the provincial health department offices on Monday.
The South African Medical Association (SAMA) has warned the health department that it will lose good doctors because they are underpaid and still earning salaries equivalent to 2015 levels.
This was said by SAMA chairperson Dr Mvuyisi Mzukwa on Wednesday. He was speaking ahead of the association's three-day conference that starts in Sandton, Johannesburg on Thursday.
The 2024 SAMA Conference, themed "Towards Strengthening Health Systems", will focus on the healthcare space in South Africa, such as the issue of unemployed doctors, the decriminalisation of healthcare and the NHI Bill.
