A South African National Defence Force (SANDF) member is expected to appear in a Limpopo court on a charge of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm after allegedly using a wooden pick handle to attack a 61-year-old man.
According to police spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba, the 42-year-old SANDF member is expected to appear on Monday.
The member, who is stationed at the Vuwani Military Base and holds the rank of sergeant, was arrested on Saturday after allegedly assaulting the 61-year-old man in Tshirenzheni village on Friday evening.
“It is alleged that the complainant was asleep when the suspect arrived at his residence, shouting angrily. When he went outside to investigate, the suspect allegedly assaulted him several times on the head with the pick handle, causing serious injuries. The complainant was taken to a local hospital for medical treatment,” said Mashaba.
The SANDF member is in custody.
