Severe thunderstorms, heavy rain leading to flooding, strong winds and hail are forecast in parts of KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo, the Free State and Eastern Cape, according to the South African Weather Service (SAWS).

Impact-based warnings

Yellow Level 4 warning in KwaZulu-Natal: Severe thunderstorms with heavy downpours, flooding, danger to life (due to fast-flowing streams or deep water), hail, gusty winds, excessive lightning and travel disruptions expected in western and southern regions.

Yellow Level 2 warning of severe thunderstorms with heavy downpours, localised flooding, strong winds, hail, and lightning expected in Limpopo (excluding Limpopo Valley and northern Lowveld), the Free State (except along Lesotho’s northern border) and northern/eastern Eastern Cape.

Yellow Level 1 warning of damaging winds expected from late morning until Friday afternoon, leading to navigation difficulties at sea along the coastal regions between Table Bay and Plettenberg Bay.
