A German national died on Thursday morning after falling from one of the hiking trails on Lion’s Head within the Table Mountain National Park.

A German national died on Thursday morning after falling from one of the hiking trails on Lion’s Head within the Table Mountain National Park.

The SA National Parks (SANParks) confirmed the incident, stating that emergency services were alerted, and a coordinated response was initiated immediately.

“Despite the efforts of all involved, the hiker was sadly declared deceased at the scene,” said SANParks spokesperson JP Louw.

“The South African Police Service has taken over the investigation into the incident. Out of respect for the family, SANParks will not disclose further details about the deceased.

“SANParks extends its deepest condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of the deceased during this difficult time,” Louw added.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg said they had registered an inquest docket and were investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

“A post-mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death,” Twigg added.
